Milan: Inter Milan have been fined 50,000 euros after fans racially abused their former player Mario Balotelli in Sunday's city derby with AC Milan, Serie A said in a statement on Tuesday.
Italian authorities have long been criticised by anti-racism campaigners for not cracking down hard enough on discrimination in sport. Milan derby ended in a 1-1 draw. Inter were previously already handed a 15,000-euro fine after the club's supporters racially abused Balotelli during the win over Chievo earlier in February.
Meanwhile, AC Milan have been handed a 10,000-euro fine as well as their supporters showcased insulting banners aimed at Inter players and fans.
Furthermore, Balotelli has been slapped with a 10,000-euro fine and an official warning for his gesture toward the Inter fans in the closing stages of the match as he attempted to silence the offenders.
