New Delhi: It was a battle of the former European champions and German powerhouse Bayern Munich managed to beat Red Star Belgrade 4-2 in the Group F encounter of the UEFA Cup on Thursday.
Ognjen Koroman was on target to put Red Star ahead after just sixteen minutes. Three minutes later, Bayern were level with German striker Miroslav Klose getting his first for the night.
In the second half, Nenad Milijas gave the Red Star the lead yet again with just 17 minutes from time, but two free kicks from Bayern substitute Toni Kroos turned the match on its head.
The first found an unmarked Klose and he scored the equaliser in the 84th minute. Two minutes into injury time, Klose completed his hat-trick and won the game for Bayern.
In a Group B match, Lokomotiv Moscow and Atletico Madrid shared six goals in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Visitors Atletico Madrid grabbed the lead in the 16th minute through a superb finish from Argentine youngster Sergio Aguero. Lokomotiv then equalised 11 minutes later. Uruguayan striker Diego Forlan restored Atletico's lead in the second half.
The game between Villarreal and Fiorentina ended in a draw in the UEFA Cup Group C match.
Veteran Italian striker Christian Vieri found the back of the net from close range to give his side Fiorentina a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute.
But with just a couple of minutes remaining in the match, the Fiorentina defence switched off; a free-kick saw defender Joan Capdevila sneaked in at the far post and nodded the ball past keeper Sebastien Frey. And Villarreal grabbed an unlikely 1-1 draw.
