Roma: Mirko Vucinic's agent, Alessandro Lucci, has claimed he has met with representatives from Manchester United to hold talks about signing the striker from Roma.
Juventus were thought to be favourites to sign the 27-year-old, bringing to an end his five-year stay in the Italian capital, but United have now emerged as surprise frontrunners, although a deal is not close to being finalised.
"I met Manchester United on Tuesday," Lucci told lasignoraingiallorosso.it. "We spoke about Vucinic, but we didn't reach an agreement.
"United like Vucinic but there's still a lot of work to do to see Mirko at Old Trafford."
Sir Alex Ferguson has already strengthened the squad at Old Trafford with three signings – Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David de Gea – this summer, at a combined cost of around 50 million pounds.
Sir Alex stated on Monday that he did not expect any further signings to be made before the Community Shield match against rivals Manchester City on August 7.
