Madrid: Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho downplayed his recent comments to the BBC that he wanted to return to England "in a couple of years," saying he has no plans to abandon Spain anytime soon.
The former Chelsea manager told the Real Madrid website on Friday that the phrase "'in a couple of years' should not be translated literally, it is an expression used in English to mean within a few years, not exactly two."
"In two years nobody is going to get me out of here, unless they kick me out for bad results," Mourinho said. "But I am sure that I am going to complete my contract with Real Madrid."
The 48-year-old has a contract with Madrid until 2014.
Mourinho ended Madrid's three-year trophy drought by guiding them to a Copa del Rey title in his first season in 2010-11, but his team has been undone by fierce rivals Barcelona in various head-to-head encounters in both the Spanish league and Champions League.
"People who know me know perfectly well that I wouldn't leave for anything in the world and miss out on this Madrid, who still have the best to come," he said.
Even so, Mourinho confirmed that he sees his long-term future in the English Premier League.
"Everyone knows that I liked being in England and that England will one day have to be my natural destination because in my career, which I hope lasts 20 years or more, in a few years I will have to look for a destination," he said.
"It could be two, three, four, 20, or you never know," added Mourinho, who is in his second season at Real.
Madrid lead the Spanish league standings, three points clear of Barcelona.
Mourinho's three-year spell at Chelsea ended in 2007. He then went on to lead Inter Milan to the Champions League title in 2010, his second success in Europe's elite club competition following a 2004 triumph with Porto.
He was hired by Real president Florentino Perez to end Barcelona's dominance of Spanish and European soccer last season.
The Portuguese is seen by the media as a possible future successor to Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson, who turns 70 on Saturday.
Mourinho also said he believed the best was still to come from his Real squad.
"It would not be very clever if I was dedicating myself from the first day, giving my heart to this project, and then thinking about quitting it halfway through," he said.
"It's impossible to say how many years I will stay but what counts is the intention. What is interesting is I am very content and enormously proud to be the coach of Real Madrid and I do not see the moment to leave and I do not want to leave," said Mourinho.
