Dubai: Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo prefers Spain's La Liga over the English Premier League because he says it allows individual players to shine.

The Portuguese star claims the Spanish top flight is better than all of its rivals because of its technical nature, but says the Premier League was important in his development.

Ronaldo, who played for Manchester United for six years before joining Real Madrid, said he "learned the elementary and basic rules of football, especially discipline" while in England. But he said La Liga was the best league in the world because it "relies on players' skills and techniques."

Ronaldo spoke on Wednesday at the Dubai International Sports Conference.

Speaking in the aftermath of being awarded Best Player, the 26-year-old maintained that his experience in the Premier League helped him mould his game but feels that he now plays in a superior domestic league.

Ronaldo is the Spanish league's topscorer this year and says he has no intention of leaving Spain. While insisting he could adapt to any league, Ronaldo said he wants to stay at Real Madrid, adding "frankly I'm just enjoying the moment."

Ronaldo has enjoyed a fine individual season for Real Madrid, scoring 25 goals in just 23 appearances for Jose Mourinho's team so far.
