London: Liverpool have confirmed Craig Bellamy has re-signed for the club as he leaves Manchester City on a free transfer.
The Welsh forward returns to Anfield on a two-year contract after 30 months as a City player, a spell in which he fell victim to the owner's spending power as new signings took his place in the squad.
Bellamy was heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad before signing the contract with Liverpool as City needed to offload players in order to lower their wage budget and streamline their squad.
The forward was allowed to leave the Wales training camp on Wednesday with the view to completing a transfer, and whilst the details of his contract are not fully disclosed, it was reported that he wouldn't settle for anything less than his current deal of 90,000 Pounds at the Blues.
The Wales international spent last season on-loan at his home-town club Cardiff City in the Championship (second division) and made 36 league appearances as the Bluebirds reached the play-offs.
The 32-year-old has played for seven clubs, not including loan moves, and previously joined Liverpool in 2006.
Upon his return to the Anfield club, the former Norwich City man was assigned the number 39 shirt, the same one he wore in his previous spell at the club.
Meanwhile, the Reds completed a busy transfer deadline day as Raul Meireles joined Chelsea and David Ngog moved to Bolton Wanderers.
Meireles has joined Chelsea on a four-year deal after Liverpool said on their website that the unsettled midfielder had handed in a transfer request. The Portugal midfielder, 28, spent just over a season at Anfield where he made 44 appearances.
French forward Ngog has signed a three-year contract at Bolton, with the 22-year-old having scored 19 goals for Liverpool since joining from Paris St Germain in 2008.
Bolton manager Owen Coyle told his club's website (www.bwfc.co.uk): "He is quick, can score goals and knows what the Premier League is all about."
