With Xavi Set To Leave Barcelona, A Look Back At Spaniard's 10 Commandments For Catalan Giants
With the Spaniard set to leave the five-time UEFA Champions League winners, a list of his 10 commandments at the club resurfaced on social media

Barcelona coach Xavi was recently sacked by the club’s board, weeks after the two parties announced he would continue with the Catalan giants despite a below-par season. The ex-midfielder spent two decades at Barcelona as a player before making a return to the club as the manager in 2021.

With the Spaniard set to leave the five-time UEFA Champions League winners, a list of his 10 commandments at the club resurfaced on social media. These commandments were to be obeyed by the club’s players and staff during Xavi’s time as the team’s manager. ESPN has now shared the list on Instagram. “Xavi’s 10 commandments for the Barcelona squad during his head coaching tenure,” the post read.

The list of commandments read –

  1. Players must be 90 minutes early to practice
  2. Staff must be 2 hours early to practice.
  3. Players must eat at the training ground.
  4. Players will be fined for breaking the rules.
  5. Fines will double for repeat offences
  6. Curfew 48 hours before a game
  7. Meritocracy
  8. Travel and off-field habits will be monitored
  9. Players are prohibited from dangerous activities
  10. Players must maintain a good image

Xavi will step down from his role as Barcelona’s manager after Monday’s final game of the season against Sevilla. The club released a statement on their website to share the update which says, “Xavi not to continue as FC Barcelona first team coach: In a meeting at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, President Joan Laporta has informed Xavi Hernandez that he will not be continuing as FC Barcelona coach in the 2024-25 season.”

Former Bayern Munich and Germany coach Hansi Flick is reportedly ‘on course’ to succeed Xavi at Barcelona, as per ESPN. The Spaniard announced that he would step down as the team’s coach earlier this year in January.

However, the ex-midfielder made a U-turn last month, revealing he would stay to fulfil his contract. An agreement was soon reached between the two parties but it seems like the Barcelona board has now changed their minds.
