The upcoming Marvel series Echo is keeping fans on their toes. Created by Marion Dayre, Echo is based on the comic of the same name, by Joe Quesada and David Mack. The series, scheduled to premiere on Disney Plus on January 9 is the immediate yet unofficial sequel to Jonathan Igla’s 2021 show Hawkeye. Apart from actress Alaqua Cox, who plays the titular role of Echo aka Maya in the series, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk and Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock will be reprising their roles. In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum hinted whether Vincent’s character Wilson Fisk will be portrayed as MCU’s primary villain Thanos in the miniseries.

During the conversation, the interviewer told Brad Winderbaum that it felt like Wilson Fisk was “the Thanos of this street-level corner of the MCU". In response, Brad dropped a cue that the interviewer was on the right path. “I can’t say too much. Only that as a chapter in Wilson Fisk’s life, this is a crucial one and sets the stage in some remarkable ways for what’s coming next," he said. Brad’s comment indicated that Wilson Fisk, also known as The Kingpin will have an important role in Echo that will set the stage for his character to grow in the future MCU series or films. The antagonist will be crucial to the development of the MCU franchises.

After making an appearance in Hawkeye, Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk will appear in Echo, followed by Daredevil: Born Again. According to Comicbook.com, A popular notion that Marvel fans hold is that the MCU intends to revisit the Defenders universe and the plot, as originally portrayed by Netflix, and that Wilson Fisk will serve as the unifying thread throughout the other NYC-based Marvel series.

Presently, no MCU TV series has been confirmed for Phase 6 of the MCU. Phase 6 is currently scheduled to start with Fantastic Four on May 2, 2025, and end with Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027. It would be ideal to introduce a handful of Marvel’s Defenders throughout those two years.

Echo also stars Tantoo Cardinal as Chula, Chaske Spencer as Henry, Zahn McClarnon as William Lopez, Graham Greene as Skully, and Devery Jacobs as Bonnie. The series revolves around Echo who must battle with her past, reconnect with the Native American culture, and understand the meaning of family and love for one’s community to move forward in life.
