How to Rebirth in “Grow a Garden”
Talk to the NPC at the Garden Ascension shop. Go up to the shop and talk to the merchant, Orson. You’ll see several dialogue options: choose “I want to ascend.” This will pull up a screen that shows your rebirth requirements. You can find the Garden Ascension shop in the corner of the map near the Sell Shop. Go up to the merchant booth where you sell inventory, then look at the right corner of the map behind the shop. Some users have had trouble finding the Garden Ascension shop. If you don’t see the shop right away, check the area right around your garden, or wait a while—the shop may only appear at certain times, or you might need to reach a certain number of shekels before you can see it.
Have at least 1 trillion shekels, and between 1 and 3 mutated fruits. The fruits and their mutations are random, and the required fruit may change after a set period of time. If you aren't sure how to get mutated fruit for ascending, check this out. The fruits used for ascending are: Elder Strawberry, Romanesco, Giant Pinecone, Sugar Apple, Beanstalk, Ember Lily, and Burning Bud. The mutations for the fruits include: Wet, Shocked, Windstruck, Twisted, Aurora, Drenched, Chilled, Frozen, Moonlit, Cloudtouched, Sundried, and Choc. More than one mutation might be required for a fruit. For instance, you may need a Chilled Cloudtouched Burning Bud or a Wet Choc Beanstalk in addition to the shekels.
Click “Confirm” when you’re ready for your rebirth. After you click “I want to ascend,” you’ll see a notice that says, “Are you sure you want to ascend? You will get 10 Garden Coins but lose ALL of your shekels.” If you have the requirements and you’re sure you want to ascend, click “Yes.” You can use Garden Coins in the Garden Shop or Seed Shop Level 2. Every rebirth costs 1 trillion shekels and gives you 10 Garden Coins, no matter how many times you ascend. The only thing that will change is the fruit requirement. Be sure to spend as many shekels as possible before you ascend since you’ll lose anything that’s left. Note that you have to wait at least 24 hours before you can perform another rebirth. You can see how long you have left at the top of the “I want to ascend” menu where it says “Next Ascension.”
Do you lose your garden when you rebirth?
No, only your shekels are reset when you rebirth. When you go through the ascension, you keep everything else in your inventory and your garden, including seeds, gear, and pets. You’re basically exchanging your shekels and the mutated fruit for 10 Garden Coins, which you can use for rare upgrades and inventory expansion. You can’t trade with someone to save your shekels. Before the update, the Grow a Garden team removed the ability to trade shekels with other players—probably to keep players from giving their shekels to a friend or alt account so they don’t lose them when ascending.
Is ascending worth it in “Grow a Garden?”
Ascending is worth it if you already have an established garden. If you’re still stocking up on gear and fruit, it’s probably better to use your shekels for that. The more you invest in your farm, the faster you’ll be able to earn shekels. The main perks of ascending mostly revolve around inventory expansion, so if your inventory isn’t even full yet, there’s not much point in doing a rebirth yet. Once you have a more established garden, you might find that you have more shekels than you can really spend. At that point, a rebirth might be a good investment—you’ll get Garden Coins you can spend in the shops, and it will make earning shekels a fun challenge again. Some players are hesitant to ascend since it’s not clear whether this will be a permanent feature. In this video, Jandel (the creator of “Grow a Garden”) even says that he’s “iffy” about the new update, and that it may be removed in the future if the community doesn’t like it.
How to Use Garden Coins
Buy upgrades in the Ascension shop. To see the list of upgrades you can buy in the Garden Ascension shop, talk to Orson the merchant and choose “What are you selling?” There, you can exchange Garden Coins for upgrades like: Save Slot Upgrade (50 Garden Coins): Add 1 save slot (1 available) Egg Capacity Upgrade (20 Garden Coins): Add 1 egg slot (5 available) Pet Inventory Capacity Upgrade (20 Garden Coins): Add 10 slots for pet inventory (5 available) Cosmetic Inventory Capacity Upgrade (10 Garden Coins): Add 10 slots for cosmetic inventory (5 available)
Get rare fruit from the Level 2 Seed Shop. Choose a food item from your inventory, then walk up to Sam, the merchant at the seed shop and choose Feed. You may need to do this several times until your friendship with him reaches Level 2. When that happens, you’ll unlock the second tier of the Seed Shop, where you’ll see rare seeds that you can buy for Garden Coins. To make food: Get a Cooking Kit (you can obtain one by completing all of the Common Achievements in your Garden Guide). Place the Cooking Kit in your garden and put fruits and vegetables into it to create a food item.
How to Get Mutated Fruit for Ascending in “Grow a Garden”
Weather, pets, and mutation sprays can give you mutated fruit. For a hands-off way to get mutated fruit in Grow a Garden, just wait for the appropriate weather event to affect the fruit growing in your farm. For instance, cold weather can create Chilled Fruit. But these weather events are random, and some are rare—so it can take a long time to get the fruit you need this way. Some pets can apply mutations to the fruit in your garden. For instance, the Hyacinth Macaw can apply Cloudtouched to your plants, and a pet with the Frozen mutation can apply Frozen. You can also craft Mutation Sprays at the crafting table. It’s a little expensive, but it’s the fastest and most sure-fire way to get the mutation you need so you can rebirth.
