'Pakistan Jeetega' Chants At World Cup Match In Hyderabad Stadium Draw Reactions From Social Media
While most social media users were unhappy with the crowd support for Pakistan, few others praised the crowd's behaviour

During ICC World Cup 2023 match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad, a social media post went viral which claimed that the fans in the stadium were cheering in support of Pakistan with chants like ‘Pakistan Jeetega’.

The video grabbed attention of the cricket fans on the social networking site X, formerly known as Twitter.

Some fans were elated to see such support for Pakistan who travelled to India for the first time since 2016 T20 World Cup.

However, some did not have a positive reaction seeing such support for Pakistan cricket team during the match.

While the video of the chants went viral on X, formerly Twitter, News18 could not independently verify the authenticity of it.

Meanwhile, Pakistan managed to secure a win against Sri Lanka in what resulted to be an epic run chase. Pakistan wicket-keeper, Muhammed Rizwan was the highlight as he stuck through the end to help Pakistan get the win as he scored a ton along with opening batter, Abdullah Shafique who also scored a ton.

Pakistan registered the highest-run chase in ODI World Cup history by chasing the 345-run target.

Many would have thought that the chase would be unsuccessful as Pakistan lost the wickets of opener, Imam-ul-Haq and skipper, Babar Azam for cheap adding to the pressure for the Pakistan side. But the pair of Abdullah Shafique and Muhammed Rizwan took charge as they set a partnership of 176 runs thereby giving Pakistan the foundation to build their chase through.

Shafique was dismissed by Matheesha Pathirana for 113 runs off  103 deliveries to give Pakistan the much-needed solidity. Muhammed Rizwan was there till the end as he stitched a crucial partnership with Saud Shakeel despite having severe cramps as well.

But Rizwan managed to score the match-winning runs as he finished off the chase with 10 balls to spare. He also won the Player of the Match award for his knock of 131 off 121 deliveries as Pakistan now registered their second win in their World Cup campaign.

During the post-match press-conference, Rizwan spoke on the crowd support. He said,” It was like playing in Rawalpindi, the crowd supported great and supported both Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Actually the crowd supported cricket here which was fantastic to see.”

Pakistan will now go up against the hosts, India on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
