142 GHMC plots go missing in Hyderabad!
Over 50 percent of the properties belonging to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are missing.

HYDERABAD: Over 50 percent of the properties belonging to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are either missing or have been encroached upon in various mandals of Hyderabad. This came to light after the Town Planning wing of the GHMC surveyed 272 properties and found that 142 properties could not be traced with  extent of land to the tune of 15,197 sq. yds, worth a few hundred crores of rupees.

The civic body engaged the services of four retired surveyors few months ago for verification of GHMC properties in the twin cities and three of them attended to the works. The percentage of missing properties is likely to go up further once the list of other mandals in the city are submitted. The report would be submitted in a couple of months.

Speaking to Express, GHMC authorities said in the first phase the surveyors were entrusted with verification of 272 leased properties in Nampally, Himayathnagar, Amberpet and Asifnagar mandals. Based on the ground verification, they found about 142 properties could not be traced and the extent of land is to the tune of about 15,197 sq. yd.

Records of only 101 plots could be traced by the surveyors and for 29 properties, physical records were found twice. Once, surveying of rest of the mandals is completed, a few hundred more missing properties are likely to be added to the list, according to a GHMC official. Further, the Town Survey Land Records digitalised maps have been obtained from the Hyderabad district collector to know their current status and the same was superimposed on the base available with GHMC for proper verification of corporation properties, officials added.

It has also come to light that files related to property worth crores belonging to the GHMC are missing. The civic body which has several bits and pieces of property located in heart of the city, leases it to raise money. Over a 100 files with details about the size and location of the land, name of lease holder and lease period including the lease amount are missing from the corporation office. A serious effort is now being made to trace and get back the lands actually owned by the GHMC. The corporation which identified 94 properties they leased out, has computerised them and showcause notices prepared for eviction of encroachers.
