Kolkata: In a span of 24 hours, two University Vice Chancellors have quit in West Bengal. Visva Bharati Vice-Chancellor Sushanta Dattagupta has quit after an HRD ministry report accused him of gross misconduct and dereliction of duty.
Duttagupta has sent his resignation to President Prnab Mukherjee in wake of his imminent dismissal as he was facing charges of financial and administrative irregularities.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor of Kalyani University Ratanlal Hanglu has resigned after protesting students kept him locked up in office for an entire night. They had been protesting a fee hike at the college.
Hanglu has sent his resignation to Governor KN Tripathi after he and other senior university authorities and teachers were kept under a night-long gherao by students who were protesting fee hike at the undergraduate level. The Vice Chancellor is clearly disgusted with the indiscipline shown by students.
