A 29-year-old man was arrested for strangling his wife to death in Thiruvalam police station limits on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Nandhini, who was married to Chockalingam, a milk vendor and resident of Karigiri, barely 17 months ago. Since their marriage, the couple had a rocky relationship as Chockalingam suspected the fidelity of his wife and often quarreled with her, said the police.
On Monday night, he took Nandhini on his bike to her parent’s house at Aruvathaarpudur. Chockalingam stopped his bike when they neared the house and picked up a quarrel with her around 10 pm. In a fit of rage, he strangled his wife using her saree. He surrendered before the Village Administrative Officer of Eranthangal, Sadagopan, and confessed to his crime.
Following a report by the VAO, the Tiruvalam police registered a case of murder and produced Chockalingam before a court that remanded him to the Vellore Central Prison for Men.
