2G: Prashant Bhushan moves SC against CBI
Prashant Bhushan accuses the CBI of overlooking vital facts related to Dayanidhi Maran.

New Delhi: Senior lawyer Prashant Bhushan has filed a fresh affidavit in the Supreme Court alleging that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has not honestly conducted investigations against former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case.

Bhushan in his affidavit filed on Tuesday accused the CBI of overlooking vital facts related to Maran's role in 2G spectrum allocation.

The CBI had on September 1 told the Supreme Court that Maran, who was the telecom minister during the UPA-I rule, wasn't found to have coerced in finalising the sale of Aircel to Malaysia-based Maxis group.

The agency also claimed before the two-judge bench of justices GS Singhvi and AK Ganguly that there was prima facie no element of coercion found in licences issued between 2001 and 2007.

CBI sources told CNN-IBN that Maran has not been given a clean chit even though there is no evidence so far to suggest that Aircel founder C Sivasankaran was coerced into selling his stake in the company to Malaysia's Maxis Communications.

Sivasankaran has alleged that he was forced to sell stake in Aircel after his applications for telecom licence was rejected in 2006 Maran.

In fact Sivasankaran had put Aircel up for sale much earlier and Vodafone had also offerd to buy it before Maxis came into picture.

Sources say that there is a strong case against Maran of showing out of turn favour in granting license to Aircel after Maxis bought it and the agency is investigating if any money was paid in lieu of this favour.
