3 held for statue desecration

AMALAPURAM:  The police on Saturday arrested three persons in connection with the desecration of statues of Dr B R Ambedkar here recently.Police said they were still looking for ten others. The arrested persons would be produced in the court on Sunday.Speaking to newsmen here, additional director-general of police Krishnam Raju  said the arrested include Vakapalli Durga Babu (20), Kanchipalli Anji Babu (19) and Manduri Anil (19) of Konkapalli. He said the accused damaged the statues in an inebriated condition. On January 23, five statues of the Dalit icon were vandalised in different villages in Amalapuram division.There is no political motive behind the  desecration and the trio have confessed the same during the enquiry, he added. Inspector general, Visakhapatnam region, KV Rajendranath Reddy said the probe would continue until the remaining suspects were caught.
