CHENNAI: Three kilograms of gold were reportedly seized during raids conducted in the houses of two TNPSC members, as sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) interrogated TNPSC chairman, R Sellamuthu, in connection with the Housing Board land allotment scam.The DVAC sleuths conducted searches in 14 places on Friday, including the house of the TNPSC chairman, following alleged corruption in the recruitment process of assistant dental surgeons, motor vehicle inspectors and Group-1 posts.Police sources said that they had seized three kilograms of gold during searches in the house of two TNPSC members and had seized Rs 26.3 lakh in cash, allegedly from the house of another member.Photocopies of hall tickets and list of candidates, who passed the exams, and other incriminating documents were seized, police said.According to sources, Sellamuthu was interrogated at the TNPSC office on Greams Road for over nine hours. The interrogation, that started at 6.30 pm on Friday, went on till early Saturday morning.Sellamuthu was allegedly questioned on the alleged corruption in the recruitment process and also on the housing board land allotment scam, in which some civil servants had got land allotment under the social worker quota, sources said. The TNPSC chairman was questioned as he was the housing secretary when the allotment was made. It was also alleged that a close relative of the former TN Chief Minister had got allotment under the same category.Police sources said that they had attempted to question Sellamuthu earlier in connection with the allotment scam, but he allegedly refused to co-operate. Police sources said that there were irregularities in the results announced after the exams for Village Administrative Officers (VAOs) recently and that a person, who runs a Dalit organisation, had taken bribe to fill candidates under the SC quota.He would soon be questioned, they added.
