WARANGAL: District collector Rahul Bojja said that legal action will be initiated against 30 doctors who performed pre-natal diagnostic tests (PNDTs). Action will also be taken against scanning centres running without permission.A team of five doctors of National Inspection and Monitoring Committee, Ministry of Health, visited the district on Thursday to check PNDTs.The collector and health department officials spoke to the committee members at a meeting here.Earlier, the members visited various scanning centres, nursing homes and inspected their functioning. The collector listed out the measures taken up to curtail the diagnostic tests.Rahul Bojja said that nursing homes were being inspected frequently and that scanning centres were also being monitored. Doctors performing the tests had been identified, he told the members. He also promised to seal the scanning centres performing the tests and take action against the doctors.The Central team observed that there was a high infant mortality rate in the district and that the difference between birth rate of female and male babies was more.“The birth rate of girl babies has gone down,” they said and directed the officials to check female infanticide.DM&HO Dr Sambasiva Rao, Central Monitoring team members Dr Suma Duraija, Dr Anuradha Vemuri, Dr Varsha Deshpande and Ifat Ahmed were present.
