30 lakhs for Paralympics silver medallist
Nagarajegowda gave India its first medal at the Paralympics Games after bagging silver in the Men's High Jump F42 event.

New Delhi: The winner of silver medal, Girisha Hosanagara Nagarajegowda, who gave India their first medal at the Paralympic Games has been awarded Rs 30 lakhs by the ministry of Sports.

Nagarajegowda gave India its first medal at the Paralympics Games after bagging silver in the Men's High Jump F42 event in London. The 24-year old from Karnataka, who has an impairment in his left leg, sailed over a height of 1.74m using scissors technique in the final of the event to finish second in the presence of an 80,000 capacity crowd last night.

Ajay Maken had announced that the athletes participating in Paralympics will be awarded same money as the Olympians. The Olympics medallist were awrded 20, 30 and 50 lakh ruppees for bronze, silver and gold respectivley.
