CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday ordered opening of four new unit offices of the transport department at Sriperumbudur, Kallakurichi, Vedasandur and Palacode and directed that the unit office functioning at Tindivanam be upgraded as a full-fledged Regional Transport Office (RTO).  She also ordered creation of 32 additional posts for these offices totally at a non-recurring expenditure of Rs1.07 crore and a recurring expenditure of Rs 74.51 lakh per annum. The Chief Minister has ordered setting up of new  unit offices in areas where people frequently visit the offices for getting driving licences and pay taxes.  The Sriperumbudur area which comes under Kanchipuram Regional Transport Office would be divided  and a new unit office opened there.  All areas under the Sriperumbudur revenue division will be brought under the new unit office.Kallakurichi in Villupuram district will also see a new unit office coming up, as people from Kallakuruchi and Sankarapuram travel to Ulundhurpettai to get a licence or pay taxes.  Similarly, Vedachandur in Dindugul district will have a new unit office and this will function under Dindugul RTO.Palacode in Dharmapuri district will soon function with a new unit office and people need not travel all the way to Dharmapuri main office to register their vehicles.
