5 Cells Were Left Unlocked For VK Sasikala's Personal Use, Says DIG D Roopa
IG (Prisons) D Roopa had caused a storm last week when she submitted a report alleging that Sasikala, convicted in a corruption case, was receiving VIP treatment in Bengaluru jail.

Bengaluru: Whistleblower police officer D Roopa has submitted a second report substantiating her earlier allegations about unlawful privileges that were extended to AIADMK leader VK Sasikala in Bengaluru jail.

In her report, the officer alleged that five cells in the barrack are left unlocked for Sasikala's use.

Furthermore, Roopa said, one stretch of the corridor was barricaded for her and no one else had access to it. Food was bought to Sasikala in special vessels and she was given separate bedding along with other facilities.

The senior IPS officer had caused a storm last week when she submitted a report to her seniors in which she had alleged that Sasikala, convicted in a corruption case, was receiving VIP treatment in jail, including a special kitchen counter.

Her accusations have led Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah to ‘order a high-level inquiry’. While her boss, DGP of Prisons HSN Rao denied receiving such a report, D Roopa publicly stood her ground.

On Monday, the state government transferred the officer to the traffic wing. “I haven’t received a copy of the notice. I will react after receiving the copy,” Roopa told CNN-News18.

Justifying her transfer, Siddaramaiah said, “Why should I not transfer her? It is an administrative process. It is not necessary to disclose everything to the media.”

Roopa has been put on notice by the state government for going to the media over her controversial report. As the report erupted into a major controversy, a red-faced government had asked her to explain her conduct, with Siddaramaiah saying it was "absolutely against the rule book”.

Denying that the move is a ‘punishment’ transfer, Karnataka Power Minister DK Shivakumar told CNN-News18, “We have some rules. An investigation is on. No officer is allowed to go to the media. A fair investigation will be conducted.”
