Chhatarpur: A 75-year-old woman was raped and assaulted by a man in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.
Police have arrested the culprit.
The woman, who lives alone in a shanty in Narayanbagh area of the town, was fast asleep on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday when a man barged into the shack with the intention of theft.
Hearing the commotion, the woman woke up and raised an alarm seeing the intruder. The thief instead of fleeing the spot, assaulted the elderly woman by pinning her on the floor, and raped her.
The thief also vandalised vehicles parked outside the shanty while fleeing after the heinous act.
Police followed shortly and sent the woman to hospital where medical examination confirmed sexual assault on her.
Afterwards, the police booked the unidentified person under section 376 and others of IPC and managed to arrest the accused Akbar Khan on Wednesday evening.
