New Delhi: The body of Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was brought back to his Delhi home from AIIMS on Saturday afternoon.
Sharma will be cremated with full police honours on Saturday at 1600 Hrs IST.
"Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma will be cremated with full police honours at 4 pm at Nigambodh Ghat," Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat said.
On Saturday morning, his residence in Dwarka, southwest Delhi, was swarming with people awaiting his body to pay their last respects. His son Divyanshu, who was hospitalised with dengue, has also returned home. Sharma had reached Friday's shootout site at Jamia Nagar in south Delhi after visiting his son in hospital.
Several political leaders and a large number of Delhi Police personnel, including his team members, are expected to attend the cremation.
The 43-year-old brave officer who led from the front received several bullet injuries during an encounter with five suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists in New Delhi on Friday morning.
He was rushed to Holy Family Hospital but succumbed to his injuries at the operating table at 1900 Hrs IST.
The officer received bullet injuries on his upper abdomen, upper arm, left shoulder and right hip, the hospital said in a medical bulletin.
In his 19 years of service, the Delhi Police Special Cell encounter specialist was credited for killing 35 terrorists and arresting at least 80 others.
Loss of a Hero
As Sharma took his last breath on Friday, a greatly indebted nation grieved the loss of a hero.
Delhi Police Commissioner YS Dadwal said Sharma was a highly decorated police officer and had won seven gallantry medals including a President's award.
“We have lost our best man,” Dadwal said.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA president Sonia Gandhi expressed grief over Sharma's death.
Leader of Opposition L K Advani too paid his last respects to Sharma.
"I had come to congratulate a brave inspector of the Delhi Police. I didn't know that I would be paying my last respects to a very brave man who fought terrorists," BJP leader L K Adavni said.
Inspector Sharma was one of the closest lieutenants of ACP Rajbir Singh, the man responsible for converting the Special Cell into an anti-terror unit.
Sharma was credited with creating an impressive network of informers and had been decorated with seven gallantry awards. During his career, he received at least 150 commendations as well as other awards.
Home Minister Shivraj Patil said that he had asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to help the family in every manner possible.
"He is a martyr and the entire country is grateful to him for the sacrifice that he has made,” Patil said.
Sharma, born on July 2, 1965, joined the Delhi Police as a sub-inspector in 1989 and got an out of turn promotion in 1995 when he was elevated to the rank of an Inspector.
