THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Commissioner for Entrance  Examinations (CEE) will initiate action against those self-financing engineering colleges which refused to give admission to students who were given allotment to these colleges by the CEE. The CEE plans to report the matter to the AICTE and the universities to which the colleges are affiliated with remarks. This may result in withdrawal of affiliation to the colleges. Sources said that there were complaints that some colleges had refused admissions to the students who had been allotted merit quota seats in violation of the clauses in the agreement signed between Kerala Self-Financing Engineering College Managements Association  and the State Government on July 17. Till now, complaint of such violation has been reported only against a women’s engineering college functioning at Irapuram near Perumbavoor which refused admission to two girl students who got allotment to BTech Computer Science and Applied Electronics branches respectively at the college. The students had brought the matter to the notice of the CEE who, in turn, initiated action against the college. According to sources, the Christ Knowledge City Women’s Engineering College denied admission to the students saying that they had joined there in the management quota seats. CEE B S Mavoji told ‘Express’ that this was a gross violation of the agreement signed between the government and the managements’ association. The college will be given one more day’s time to correct its mistake. After that, the issue would be brought to the notice of the AICTE and Mahathma Gandhi University to which the college is affiliated. There is enough time for the college to rectify the mistake. The time limit for candidates, who got allotment to professional courses, to join the respective colleges is 5 p.m. on Monday. College chairman P J Poulose defended the decision saying that these students were admitted to the management quota seats in the college on June 25 itself. Now, as they received the government allotment, they want to change their admissions to government quota seats. If we change students from management quota to government quota seats, the situation would be such that there would be no students in management quota seats, he said. According to the agreement between the managements’ association and the government, the deadline for completing the admission is September 22. As per the agreement, the government can make three allotments to private self-financing engineering colleges. But only two allotments have been published till now. The last option registration process for admission to private self-financing engineering colleges will begin on September 12.
