Ahmedabad blasts: 10 accused sent to police custody
The accused have been sent to police custody till October 8.

Ahmedabad: Ten persons accused in the serial blasts of July 26, including alleged mastermind Mufti Abu Basher, were sent to police custody till October 8 by a metropolitan magistrate on Wednesday.

Basher, Jahir Sheikh, Imran Sheikh, Sajid Mansuri, Iqbal Sheikh, Samsuddin Sheikh, Yunus Mansuri, Gyasuddin Ansari, Arif Kagzi and Usman Agarbattiwala, were produced before metropolitan magistrate G M Patel after their 24-hour police remand ended on Wednesday.

All the ten, who are active members of SIMI according to the city crime branch investigating the serial blast cases, have been booked for their alleged involvement in the blasts that took place in Naroda area.

A total of 18 cases have been registered under various police stations of the city in connection with the serial blasts that killed 56 people on July 26.

The court sent ten accused to police custody till October 8, after prosecution submitted that their remand was required to gather further evidence and get information of others involved in the crime.

The prosecution presented 13 grounds for seeking remand of the accused in their remand application.

Enumerating the grounds, special public prosecutor J M Panchal said accused were in touch with absconders in the cases Abdul Razik and Qayamuddin Kapadia.

They were also in touch with other accused under police custody, Aiyaz, who had planted a bomb in Naroda area, Panchal said, adding remand was required to get names of others involved in Naroda blasts.
