Mumbai: The agony continues for Air India passengers as flights get delayed. There were protests at Mumbai airport by angry passengers on Wednesday night after nearly 200 passengers of a Frankfurt-Mumbai flight were stranded for almost 10 hours at Delhi airport after their flight was diverted there.
The passengers allege they were not informed about the change in flight plan.
"We were told that flight will leave in five minutes. Then we saw pilot and co-pilot walking out of airport. This is our Air India," said a passenger.
After reaching Mumbai, the fuming passengers shouted slogans against Air India outside Mumbai airport.
The flights are getting delayed due to transition of the airline's flights to Delhi Airport's Terminal 3 building.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, too, there were protests in Patna, Mumbai and Delhi over delayed Air India flights.
A major reason for the delays has been the acute shortage of ground handling staff available with the airline. To get over the problem Air India collaborated with AI SATS just before shifting operations to the international terminal.
The firm was supposed to handle ground handling operations for the airline but sources have told CNN-IBN that while the agency was supposed to provide 500 personnel as per the contract only about 100 have been provided till date.
The problem got accentuated when the airline decided to shift 11 of its domestic arrivals to the new international terminal from October 31. Sources say authorities were desperate to implement their winter schedule and were not prepared to handle the transfer of operations just yet.
In the absence of aerobridges and adequate ground handling staff the passengers have been the casualty.
