CHENNAI: A painter allegedly murdered his wife and two children after a domestic dispute at Vyasarpadi in the city on Friday.Sources said Yogesh (30) alias Yogesh Raj, a painter, was alcoholic and would often come home drunk and beat up his wife Rukmini. The couple had two children, a son Yuvaraj (3) and a nine-month-old daughter Deepa. Rukmini often complained to her brothers, Nagalingam, Subramanian and Sakthivel, who lived in the same locality, about the ill-treatment. They intervened and brought about peace between the husband and wife after every dispute, sources claimed.Yogesh did not have a regular job and painted whenever he got a contract. Addicted to alcohol, he sold 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery given to his wife at the time of their wedding.On Thursday, there was another quarrel between the couple and Rukmini telephoned her brothers around 3 pm. The trio came at 7 pm and found the front door locked. Fearing something amiss, they searched for their sister and her children everywhere before meeting Yogesh’s brother Prakash on the way. They received a shock when Prakash told them that he was rushing to Yogesh’s house after receiving a call from him, claiming that he had murdered his wife and children. All the four broke down the front door and on entering found Rukmini dead on the bed with her mouth gagged and stab wounds on the body. The two children, who had been strangulated, were hanging from the fan. Inspector Purushottaman recovered the bodies and sent them for a post-mortem. According to sources, when the police team tried to contact Yogesh over the cell phone, the cell phone tower signals indicated that he was in Tirupati. A special team under MKB Nagar Inspector Rajendran has rushed there, the sources added.
