Hyderabad: In 82nd plenary session of Congress, it was expected that the party would discuss serious issues - something that's the general purpose of a meeting of that level.
Instead, the event became a showcase for pushing Rahul Gandhi as the heir apparent in the party.
Rahul will, on Monday, address the plenary in a speech that will be his first ever at a Congress meet.
Monday is also the last of the plenary and expectations are soaring as MP from Amethi will take to stage.
Meanwhile, other issues plaguing the party were also addressed in the first two days of the plenary.
However, the party became coy as it touched on the subject of coalition politics.
The Karnataka crisis touched a raw nerve with many in Hyderabad and the political resolution revealed a sense of hurt.
The Congress asked its allies not to cross the lakshman rekha (limits) of coalition politics.
"We must not compromise when going for coalition partners and alliances even if we don't get power in Karnataka," G Shahnawaz, Congress leader, said.
Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi went a step ahead while echoing similar sentiments. "It is not that we cannot contest against those we are in alliance with at the Centre," he said.
There was high drama on the second day of Congress plenary.
As soon as the session started, there was commotion and workers present at the meet demanded that Rahul Gandhi come and address them.
Senior leaders also joined the chorus for Rahul Gandhi to assume a position of responsibility in the party.
Rahul, however, turned down the request saying he will talk only on Monday.
Karnataka CM Dharam Singh is also likely to be present for the session.
