Kolkata: In a startling development, Mohun Bagan coach Amal Dutta expressed his inability to continue with the riders imposed on him by the club management leaving the team without a coach mid-season.
Dutta quit in protest of the executive committee's decision to appoint a goalkeeping coach and a physical instructor and had sent a letter to the club saying he does not accept the decisions of the management.
"Mr Dutta sent a letter through his grandson to Central Park where the team practices expressing inability to accept the leash imposed on him by the executive committee," Club Secreatary Anjan Mitra said.
"In the letter, he further expressed that he would not be able to come to give practice to team with the riders on."
"Under these circumstances we are treating this letter as his resignation and accepting it. We are looking for a replacement of Mr Dutta and it would be announced soon," he added.
Coincidentally, Satyajit Chatterjee, the assistant coach, did not turn up for practice on Tuesday and it was left to the senior players like Edu, Basudeb Mondal and Dulal Biswas to give the team practice.
Things came to a loggerhead when after losing 1-4 to East Bengal, Dutta alleged that keeper Subrata Pal had taken a bribe and also pointed fingers at the club officials.
In an emergency executive body meeting the club, it was decided to restrain Dutta from making comments in the press about players and officials. He was also asked to mend his mavarick ways of functioning.
