Amrita University’s Amritapuri Campus at Vallikavu observed a ‘Car-free Day’ on Saturday with hundreds of students and staff opting for bicycles to travel to the campus instead of their motor vehicles.
The endeavour was part of its efforts to support and contribute towards a’Greener Tomorrow’, a statement from the University said.
The statement said that students and staff participated in the awareness campaign as a token of their commitment to preserve and protect the environment, inspired by the Chancellor of Amrita University Mata Amritanandamayi.
The students and staff pledged to make use of public transport instead of private vehicles to travel to the campus. A cycle rally from Karunagappally to Amritapuri was held as part of the campaign.

Vice-Chairperson of Karunagappally Municipality Lakshmi Mohanan and vice- president of Kollam District Panchayat C Radhamani attended the programme. The rally was led by principals and other senior faculty members of Amrita Institutions. The event is being organised for the second year in succession. ‘Amrita Sanjeevani’, the seva association of Amritapuri campus spearheaded the programmes.
