ANGUL: Commuters in the district, in particular the train passengers, had a harrowing time with agitating lawyers observing bandh on Wednesday. Under the aegis of District Bar Association, they have been demanding a district judge court. Services of several long distance trains were disrupted. While vehicular movement was hit, East Coast Railway (ECoR) cancelled and short terminated several trains on the route. In response to the bandh call, shops and business establishments remained closed.Due to rail-roko by the protesters, train services in Cuttack-Sambalpur railway section were disrupted. As a result, some had to be cancelled and some short terminated, ECoR sources said.The 12893 Bhubaneswar-Balangir Inter City Express was short terminated at Dhenkanal and returned as 12894 Balangir-Bhubaneswar Inter City Express from Dhenkanal to Bhubaneswar. Services of Bhubaneswar-Balangir-Bhubaneswar Inter City Express was cancelled between Dhenkanal and Balangir, they said. Similarly, 58131 Rourkela-Puri fast passenger was short terminated at Sambalpur and returned back as 58132 Puri-Rourkela fast passenger. The 58132 Puri-Rourkela fast passenger was short terminated at Talcher and returned as 58131 Rourkela-Puri fast passenger to Puri. The lawyers have been on cease work since December 8 demanding a district court here. With the government ignoring their demand, they had called for the bandh.Bar Association general secretary Jitendra Sahu said further course of action would be decided on Thursday. Eight platoons of police force were deployed to avert any untoward incident.
