CHENNAI: The Chennai Corporation on Thursday adopted 41 resolutions, including a nod for the removal of the Anna Arch to facilitate the construction of a flyover linking Third Avenue in Anna Nagar with Nelson Manickam Road, at an estimated cost of Rs 117 crore. But, the landmark arch along with the statue of ex-Chief Minister Annadurai would be later relocated to a place identified by the Corporation. The highways department, which is constructing the flyover, has also accepted to bear the cost of the relocation and maintain the statue till it is reinstalled. In a significant move, the meet resolved to appoint a consultant to explore possibilities for the seven proposed flyover projects in the city. Extension of the Mahalingapuram - North Usman - South Usman bridges to link directly with Anna Salai, flyovers at Mandaveli Bus Terminus and Sterling Road junctions are a few key projects that would be analysed. Six 24x7 maternity hospitals would be established in the newly merged areas of the Corporation. Four gram gold coins would be given to meritorious Corporation drivers with 10 years of service.
