CHENNAI: Yet another case was slapped at DMK ex-MLA Ranganathan for allegedly threatening a man at Rajamangalam and laying a road on his land. Police said the ex-MLA threatened one urJoseph Feranando and laid a 30-feet wide road in his 1.75-ground land. Soces said that the ex-MLA had helped an acquaintance, who owned a property next to Joseph Fernando’s land and needed a pathway. Ranganathan, who was detained under the Goondas Act, was brought to Egmore court from Vellore prison and was remanded, police said.Businessman Robbed Of `2 lakhs A businessman was robbed of `2 lakh by a conman at Chromepet on Monday. Police said businessman John Kennedy of GST Road, Chromepet was carrying a suitcase containing `2 lakh in his car to deposit it in the bank when a man approached him. He pointing to a few currencies on the road asked Kennedy if they belonged to him. When John tried to take a few `10 and `20 notes lying on the road, the man fled stealing the suitcase with the money. Woman Electrocuted A 52-year-old woman was electrocuted when she stepped on a live electric cable at Pallavaram on Monday. Police said Valliammal was walking on a road at Pallavaram when she stepped on a live overhead electric cable that had snapped and fell on the ground. She died on the spot. A case has been registered.Doctor Misbehaves with Woman, HeldA doctor was arrested on Tuesday for trying to misbehave with a woman after promising to marry her. Police arrested Dharaneeswaran, a doctor working in the hospital at the harbour who had promised his relative Visalakshi to marry her and then allegedly misbehaved with her. He is the brother of Visalakshi sister’s husband. Visalakshi said they had been in love for three years.18 Sovereigns Stolen From HousePreethi, a 30-year-old woman, lodged a complaint with the Seven Wells police after she found 18 sovereigns of gold missing from her house on Monday. Police said the woman’s maid Gita was also missing and suspected her for theft. Gita had been working as a maid in Preethi’s house at Kondithope for three years and had a set of house keys. A few days ago, Gita did not turn up to work and was not found at her house. On Monday, Preethi found her jewellery also missing. The police are investigating.
