HYDERABAD: The family of Adapa Venkanna who was killed in an encounter by Vijayawada police has decided to file a review petition in the High Court or approach the Supreme Court seeking action against the then Vijayawada police commissioner PSR Anjaneyulu and other officials. The HC recently asked police to file a murder case against the SI and his team for the death.Venkanna's wife, Mahalakshmi also alleged she was being threatened since she started the legal battle against her husband's killing and demanded she be provided security. "The SI and his team would not have 'executed' the encounter without directions from Anjaneyulu. Anjaneyulu is the main culprit and he along with the deputy commissioner of police, assistant commissioner of police and other officials should be charged for murder," Venkanna's wife A Mahalakshmi demanded at a press conference on Wednesday, along with her lawyers T Chiranjeevi, Jeevaratnam, and AP Civil Liberties Committee vice-chief D Suresh Kumar. "Ever since Mahalakshmi started the legal battle, she is being threatened. She even received threat and blank calls,'' her advocate T Chiranjeevi alleged. "Venkanna was killed in cold blood. Anjaneyulu kept Venkanna in illegal confinement for 72 days when he was the SP of Guntur. Why should the SI kill him when he did not have any personal rivalry with the deceased?,'' he asked.Mahalakshmi said that Venkanna left home a day before his encounter to surrender before Anjaneyulu. "My husband was carrying `10 lakh cash and three kg gold. He left around 5.30 p.m and called me twice at 6 p.m and 7 p.m. After that I tried to contact him but in vain. The next day I came to know about his death in an encounter,'' Mahalakshmi said adding her husband never carried a weapon.The advocates said though there were 90 cases against Venkanna, police records show he never caused hurt or attacked any person.
