HYDERABAD: The power utilities in the state are planning to invest Rs 14,000 crore over the next four years to strengthen transmission and distribution network in the state. A Chandrasekhara Reddy, member secretary of the Energy Co-ordination Cell, said in his keynote address at the inaugural of the three-day workshop on energy conservation and efficiency, that AP has experienced a record consumption of 288 MU during khariff as against 277 MU in rabi.In the wake of rising demand for power, the state power utilities would strengthen transmission and distribution network by investing Rs 14,000 crore in the coming four years. In addition to this, APGenco is planning to achieve additional capacity of 3,210 megawatts during the same period, he said .The workshop was conducted by Siri Energy and Carbon Advisory Services Limited here on Wednesday. Keeping in the view the vast potentiality of energy conservation, the bureau of energy efficiency has suggested the state government to take up energy conservation and efficiency measures in a big way to minimise the gap between supply and demand and to vigorously implement Energy Conservation Act 2001 to improve energy efficiency in the state.He said that it is pertinent to note it that in the last decade consumer base in the state has increased from 1.11 crore in 1999-2000 to 2.29 crore in 2010-2011 due to the substantial increase in the usage of electricity in day-today life. The power utilities have suggested the consumers to opt for higher starter electrical appliances which paves way not only for conserving precious energy but also to reduce the monthly power bills.
