Army has been roped in to rescue five persons struck on a small island in Parvati river in Ayana village of Kota, police said on Monday. The village is situated some 100 kilometres from Kota town.
Lakhan (22), Khemraj (21), Bhima (9) Dhiraj (12) and Rakesh (14) had gone to the island on Sunday evening in Ayana village of Itawa town when the level of water was very low.
The water flow increased following heavy rainfall and they could not return and stayed there, police said.
"Water level in the river is around 15-20 feet and the boys are struck on a distance of close to 100 meters. Army has been called and requisition for a helicopter has also been forwarded," Vikas Pathak, SP Kota Rural told PTI.
One Army column from the south-western command was pressed into service for rescue mission.
"The army engineers from Gandhiv Division are equipped with BAUT's (Boat assault universal type) and OBM (Out Board
Motor) for the rescue," defence spokesperson Col SD Goswami said.
