At Mysuru’s K R Hospital, Doctors Successfully Perform Complex Rare Liver Surgery
The operation was led by Mysore Medical College and Research Institute’s Dean, Dr S Chandrashekar.

Doctors of the government-owned K R Hospital in Mysuru city performed a rare and complex surgery recently. A 72-year-old man suffering from liver cancer was treated by performing a successful right liver surgery (RIGHT HEPATECTOMY). The surprising thing is that just two weeks after the surgery, he was completely cured and discharged from the hospital. According to reports, the old man from Mandya district was admitted to the hospital for treatment due to a severe illness. Doctors performed a successful surgery and saved the patient’s life under the right guidance. A lot of challenges were faced while cutting out 60 percent of the patient’s liver. High-tech equipment such as the Cavitron Ultrasonic Surgical Aspirator (CUSA) is required due to increased bleeding during surgery. Hi-tech equipment, which are usually available only in private hospitals, are not available in KR hospitals. Hospital doctors have successfully performed surgery without using CUSA equipment and have attracted attention.

The operation was led by Mysore Medical College and Research Institute’s Dean, Dr S Chandrashekar, alongside surgical oncology expert Dr Naveen Gowda, surgical gastroenterology specialist Dr Srivatsa, and anaesthesia experts Dr V Y Srinivas, Dr Deepa, and Dr Poolan.

Oncology expert Dr Naveen said, “The patient was 72 years old, and the surgery was challenging. It is difficult to save life by removing 60 percent of the liver. But it is possible due to the hard work of our staff. It is a miracle that the patient was completely cured in just two weeks with the efforts of all the doctors without any sophisticated equipment.” Patients should leave the inferiority complex of being a government hospital and use a government hospital.”

The patient expressed immense gratitude, saying, “The doctors are like God to me. They have freed me from the pain and deadly cancer. I thank each and every one of them.”
