VIJAYAWADA: Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at the Government General Hospital on Friday after the liquor tragedy. The family members and relatives of the four persons who died after consuming liquor at Brahmin Street in One Town were seen weeping inconsolably.Karjurapu Padma, wife of Durga Rao, lamented that her husband actually stopped consuming liquor. But he was invited to a party by his friend Subramanyam which proved fatal for him. She said her husband who returned home after attending the party at 7:30 pm on Thursday, started vomiting.When he was shifted to the government hospital, saline was administered to him. Later, the doctors asked her to take her husband home as his condition was stable. But soon after reaching home, his condition deteriorated and he developed motions and vomitings.When they shifted him to a private hospital, the doctors referred the case to the NRI Hospital at Mangalagiri. But he died while being shifted to hospital around 8 am on Friday. She blamed the negligence of the government hospital doctors for the death of her husband.Bonu Kasi, son-in-law of Sarepalli Koteswara Rao, another victim, said his father-in-law was living with them after the death of his mother-in-law six years ago.When Rao did not return home from his watch repair shop on Thursday evening, they thought that he went on some work. He got a phone call from his friend this morning who informed him that Rao was lying unconscious near his shop. When Kasi rushed to the place, Rao was found dead.The other two victims were Edi Subramanyam and Kona Yesu. Tamada Prakash (45) and R Nagaraju (28) fell ill in the incident.Speaking to Express, Andhra Pradesh Washermen’s Association city unit general secretary Kondaveeti Satyanarayana alleged that the excise officials were trying to mislead the case to save their skin. It was sure that all the four died due to consumption of illicit liquor. He demanded a thorough inquiry into the liquor tragedy.
