With a glut of cosmetic products available in the market, women usually do not think twice about picking up any one of the numerous brands available. In an effort to ensure that consumers are aware of what they are buying and using, and to help them make a decision on buying proper products, final-year PG students of the department of communications organised a public relations campaign.

Each year, the students of the department pick a social issue that requires attention and conduct a campaign based on the issue. This year’s campaign was themed ‘Schön’, meaning ‘Beautiful’ in German, with the tag line ‘Beyond Skin Deep’.

Deborah Raj, one of the students, said, “Schön is an honest and sensitive attempt to promote the safe, cautious and conscious use of cosmetics among youngsters in the city. Apart from this, we also advocated the practice of reading the label and knowing the effects of the ingredients contained in each product.” They also attempted to highlight the social and psychological constructs of beauty that affect our society, she said. The five-month-long campaign came to an end on Monday.
