New Delhi: Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azaad held a high level meeting on Friday on dengue with health secretary Sujatha Rao, Delhi health minister Kiran Walia and the Mayor of Delhi Prithviraj Sahni.
The meeting was held to discuss the measures to control the outbreak of dengue during the Commonwealth Games. The CWG Federation has sent advisories to 71 particpating nations cautioning them against the rising number of cases. Delhi has already reported more than 1000 dengue cases so far. A five-point agenda has been prepared to control the outbreak.
Walia, who attended the meeting, said that all agencies should work together and discuss all issues in detail. He said all the coordinating agencies are trying their level best and we public involvement is needed to solve this problem.
Delhi Mayor Prithviraj Sahni said, "CM tells us that the main focus is to coodinate properly between the agency like NDMC, Metro, MCD and other agencies and do work for the public interest. We will meet on 15th again and we are checking every day at the stadium and cleaning water everyday if there is rain."
The dengue outbreak has added to the woes surrounding the Commonwealth Games, which already has corruption charges against it.
According to the doctors, the water accumulated at the construction sites have led to an increase in the number of dengue cases this year. The government has formed a special task force comprising of officers from different agencies involved in the Commonwealth Games to keep a check on these sites.
Sources have told CNN-IBN that missions abroad have been writing to the health ministry saying that not just foreign tourists, the families of most international athletes are not willing to come to India.
The health ministry has been running campaigns to create awareness on how to prevent dengue but the downside is that it is creating bad press abroad.
