THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It was truly a day of role reversal for eminent scholar and former Chief Secretary D Babu Paul. On Sunday, he was the centre of attraction at the VJT Hall here, a venue where he, as a bureaucrat, had organised numerous functions. The occasion was his 70th birthday celebrations, jointly organised by Soorya Stage and Film Society and Suhrud Sangham, which was attended by a big gathering. In his speech, Babu Paul recalled how much efforts he had taken in getting spectators to attend the programmes he organised in the same venue. He said that he was happy to find that the seats were occupied in no time on Sunday. He also used the opportunity to express his thanks to everyone, including his parents, teachers, colleagues, the ministers he had worked with, his drivers and everyone who were a part of his life. He added that he did not intend to take rest during his retirement life saying that to be alive simply meant to be active. Baselios Thomas I Catholicos of the Jacobite Syrian Church, Yohannan Mar Divanasios Metropolitan from Damascus, veteran Communist ideologue P Govinda Pillai, former minister M A Baby, G Karthikeyan MLA and O Rajagopal were among those who attended the function.
