Bahubali's anointing jinxed: Politicians
The annointing of the giant Bahubali happens only once in 12 years and everytime, it has coincided with the fall of a government.

Bangalore: The Mahamastakabhisheka is starting at Shravan Belagola in Bangalore on Wednesday.

The abhisheka (annointing) of the giant Bahubali statue happens only once in 12 years.

And everytime, it has coincided with the fall of a government. This time, the Dharam Singh government fell. Politicians call it a jinx, others an astrological occurrence.

BJP MLC, Ramachandre Gowda says, "When Devaraj Urs started doing puja, it was a debacle. Gundu Rao came next in 1974. then Bangarappa and after that Moily came. Now in 2006, Dharam Singh has gone and Kumaraswamy has taken over. Maybe it is kakatala nyaya (divine justice)."

Legend has it that Bahubali renounced everything to do penance till there were creepers growing on him. Is it this spirit of renunciation

that is rubbing off on Karnataka - that chief ministers invariably give up power or are thrown out of power?

Astrologer S K Jain says, "There was a little turmoil in Moily's time - the first in 1981 then in 93 there was minor tension. Moily took over as chief minister and was lucky enough to perform the Mahamastakabhisheka. History repeats itself. Even then, the kings fought against each other."

It's probably just coincidence but our politicians like to believe in strange omens. For instance, the belief is that a chief minister who goes to Chamarajnagar district invariably loses power.

It's the same kind of thinking that's got ministerial aspirants looking at the vaasthu of their chambers at Vidhana Soudha now.

What's your reaction?
