The infotainment channel Go TV aims to upgrade the travel experience of passengers.

Bangalore: After the successful launch of infotainment in four-day trains in Mysore Division, the Bangalore Division of South Western Railways (SWR) has launched the same facility on four new trains. The infotainment channel Go TV aims to upgrade the travel experience of passengers by offering real time information and entertainment, railway officials said.

Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa, who inaugurated the new service on the Chennai-bound Shatabdi Express here on Tuesday said, “The main aim of this service is to upgrade the travel experience of passengers, which, in a way, also helps to increase the revenue. Installation of GPS tracking system on the trains will provide information about the approaching station along with time.”

This facility was initially implemented in Chamundi Express, Mysore-Dharwad Intercity Express, Tipu Express and Shimoga Express. Now, it has been extended to Bangalore-Chennai Shatabdi Express, Lalbagh Express, Bangalore-Chennai Express and Bangalore-Hubli Jan Shatabdi Express.

Licence has been given to Tranz Vision Digital Media Pvt Ltd for a year for Rs 52.92 lakh, he added. According to him, this facility will be implemented in other major trains in future.

The infotainment section will be segregated into various categories like yoga and health, wildlife, comedy, news, documentaries, celebrity interviews and more. Around two customised 26 inch LCD screens have been installed in 10 coaches in Shatabdi Express.

During journey,the licensee will broadcast schedules divided into slots of one hour each (15 minutes for rail related information, 45 minutes slot for infotainment and advertisement distributed evenly). Divisional Railway Manager S Mani, MLA Dinesh Gundu Rao and others were present.
