New Delhi: The Bangalore police has cracked down on city's hotels that remain open after 2330 hrs (IST).
On Saturday night, police raided Imperial hotel in the garden city and took away 1,000 customers, including women and children, into custody and locked them in the hotel for an hour.
Later, they were taken to Ashok Nagar police station.
This incident comes barely two days after the Supreme Court lifted the ban imposed on playing of music by live bands in restaurants in Bangalore.
However, the SC has warned that activities like dancing, gambling and obscene shows, which likely to cause law and order problems, should not take place.
Live bands in Bangalore have not opened their shutters for several months after the Karnataka police banned their operations.
With the SC's order, they are getting ready to rock and roll again.
"Nearly 25,000 people are dependent on live bands for livelihood. If they just arbitrarily shut down bands, where would we go?" said Manjunath, manager, Four Seasons.
"The bands can function as long as they keep to the conditions of not having obscenity, not function beyond 2330 hrs, IST and no immoral activities. If that happens, we will take action," said Ajai Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Police, Bangalore.
Meanwhile, the live band owners are preparing to throw open their doors once again. The mood is upbeat. Workers have already begun preparations to get their clients back - after a long gap of more than six months.
Earlier, the SC order on live band was passed by a Bench comprising Justice Ruma Pal and Justice AR Lakhsmanan on a petition by Karnataka Live Band Restaurant Association challenging the High Court direction in this regard.
The Karnataka High Court had upheld the ban till new rules are framed for carrying the business of live bands in Bangalore restaurants.
