SORAB(SHIMOGA): The mortal remains of former chief minister S Bangarappa were consigned to flames at 7.10 pm with full state honours at the grounds adjacent to Govt PU College here on Tuesday.Police fired three rounds in the air as a mark of respect to the departed leader; Bangarappa’s son Madhu lit the pyre amid chanting of hymns. A pall of gloom descended as his supporters turned up in large numbers to pay their last respects to Bangarappa, who ruled the state from 1990-92 and was an MP in his four-decade- long career that took him on a journey through Congress, BJP, Samajwadi Party and finally JD(S) besides two parties floated by him.Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, BJP state president K S Eshwarappa, former CM H D Kumaraswamy and Leader of Opposition in Assembly Siddaramaiah paid their last respects.
