Officials of a PSU bank in Andhra Pradesh's Anantapur district on Monday said that they are in possession of CCTV footage of a man resembling the attacker of a woman bank officer at an ATM kiosk in Bangalore on November 19.
The footage, captured on November 11 and 12, shows the man bearing a striking resemblance with the attacker of the Corporation Bank officer Jyothi Uday (38). The man was seen withdrawing money on two occasions from the ATM of the bank in Kadiri town of Anantapur, police said.
He was wearing the same shirt and also carrying the same bag as was seen in the footage of the gruesome attack at the ATM kiosk, police said quoting the bank officials.
"The bank authorities have informed us that the man (in their ATM CCTV footage) bears a resemblance to the accused wanted in connection with the attack on a woman in a ATM kiosk in Bangalore. We are in the process of collecting footage," a senior police officer told PTI over phone from Kadiri.
The matter is being further verified as the Bangalore assailant is also suspected to be behind the murder of an elderly woman in Dharmavaram town of Anantapur on November 10 and then using the ATM card of her son and withdrawing amounts from the ATM centre in Kadiri town, the officer explained.
Apart from Andhra Pradesh Police, a team of Bangalore police is also in touch with the bank officials, he said, adding that no one has been arrested so far for the Bangalore and Dharmavaram incidents.
"As of now there is no evidence to connect this man (shown in the Kadiri ATM) of having a role in Dharmavarm murder incident, but we are further investigating all angles," according to the officer.
Around 4-5 teams of Bangalore police were trying to trace the assailant and on November 20 picked up a man from Hindupur town of Anantapur to whom he allegedly sold the mobile phone handset of the victim. Jyothi was brutally attacked with a machete by the unidentified man at the ATM kiosk in the heart of Bangalore.
