HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is gearing up for the forthcoming byelection to the Banswada Assembly constituency in Nizamabad district. But Congress and the TDP have not yet made up their minds on whether to contest the byelection or not since TDP's Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy, who held the seat, vacated it for the cause of Telangana and later joined the TRS.
The Election Commission on Tuesday announced election schedule for the bypoll to Banswada Assembly constituency. The bypoll would be held on October 13.Banswada is a traditional stronghold of the TDP in Nizamabad district. In 2004, Congress party candidate Bajireddy Govardhan won the seat. However TDP leader Pocharam Srinivasa Reddy won the seat by defeating the Congress sitting MLA with 30,000 votes in 2009 elections. After Telangana issue became a focal point in the region, Srinivasa Reddy quit TDP and joined the TRS and decided to test his luck in the byelections now.
