Bengaluru: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Assistant Commissioner and whistle-blower K Mathai has been transferred to Personal and Administrative reforms. This is his 24th transfer in nine years and second within a month.
Mathai has been transferred for tarnishing the image of the BBMP.
Mathai had exposed large scale irregularities in the advertisement section of the BBMP that resulted in a loss of Rs 2,000 crore to the exchequer. He had even named senior officers in his expose.
Mathai said, "What has happened in BBMP, there is advertisement mafia as everybody knows. So we have been trying to streamline the tax collection but all our efforts were not fruitful because the mafia was so strong. I submitted report, first report consisting of 106 pages and along with supporting documents but, my report was not accepted by Bengaluru Mahanagar Palika but subsequently government of Karnataka has accepted the report and has ordered a steady enquiry."
