BCs oppose subquota for minorities

HYDERABAD: The AP State Backward Classes Welfare Association has condemned the central government's decision to provide 4.5 percent subquota within the 27 percent reservation for OBCs to religious minorities in central services and educational institutions.The central government may provide 10 percent reservation to religious minorities in proportion to their population but not from the 27 percent reservation for OBCs, APSBCWA president R Krishnaiah has said.In a statement here on Saturday, Krishnaiah said the APSBCWA had been demanding an increase in the OBC reservation from 27 to 50 percent in proportion to their population but if a subquota was given to minorities, the OBC quota would come down to 22.5 percent, he said.
