New Delhi: Manchester United have been knocked out of the champions league. The 1999 champions were beaten 2-1 by Portugese club Benfica and the loss ends the English club's European campaign for the year 2205.
Benfica's victory lifts them from the bottom to second place in Group D behind leaders Villarreal while Man U have to face the embarrassment of finishing last in the group.

After the match the manager of Man U Alex Ferguson, who is rumoured to be moving to Real Madrid, was at a loss of words to justify the performance of his team.
"Well I think if you give away possession like we did in the first half you have only yourself to blame, and I think that was the main problem."
"Very disappointing, that part. The second half I can give us ten out of ten for effort, determination. But when you are chasing a goal then frustration comes in and desperation comes in and I think that's what we saw in the second half," said Ferguson.
