New Delhi: The Besharmi Morcha which had started on a tottering note in Delhi, is now reaching out to a wider audience with their freshly launched website.
The official website BesharmiMorcha.in for SlutWalk aka Besharmi Morcha 2011 has been launched to ensure timely communication and easy correspondence between the public and the organizers.
SlutWalk Delhi has already created a lot of buzz around it because of name itself.
The site has been constructed to convey some important aspects and objectives that the organisers want to emphasise upon.
Some of the points that the website highlights are:
- To promote, propagate and uphold the equal rights of every woman in society; thus, ensuring gender equality.
- To eliminate gender stereotypes.
- To fight all violations, in their various forms, against women in public space.
- To promote social change and create awareness in society towards the aforementioned goals.
The home page of the site says, "You don't need to go about asking questions about what, when and where the walk is, because whatever happens, we'll let you know from here. We'll be in complete working condition very soon! Feel free to explore."
As for the date and venue of the event there is no confirmation on that yet. The organisers are still in the process of finalising permissions and the exact route of the walk. The site says, "Once we have confirmation from all authorities, we'll let you know. Stay tuned!"
The movement is being organised by students of Delhi University. The 'SlutWalk' started in response to a Toronto police officer who said "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimised."
